"European University Press" is a network of European University Presses founded in 2003. The founding idea is that the members save costs, if they do certain parts of their work together. E.g. if the member, who has the cheapest printing facility prints the books also for a second member, the second member saves costs.

The network is offering and providing (by its members) the following services, which are free to the members to use or not to use:
- common and individualized webspace (the network provides through its member "The University Press Bochum" domains like universitypress.eu, universitypresses.de etc.),
- a common search engine with highlighting/quotations/full text functions,
- translation services,
- marketing services,
- distribution services,
- printing facilities including Printing-on-Demand of backlist titles,
- funding services,
- rights management service.

The network also represents additional value compared to the single members:
- a logo for all participating university presses, wich might be attractive especially for the smaller university presses, indicating their membership in a quality assured network,
and
- quality assurance systems (European Impact Factor , European Citation Index ).

The network has the juridical form of a German GmbH (comparable to a British Ltd.). Every university press can declare its membership without any obligations, without membership fees, without a formal application and acceptance process etc. The network has the right to refuse the membership of presses, who are abusing the name of the press or who are not representing/controlled by universities or parts of universities in order to avoid participation of commercial presses in the network. The GmbH does not engage in any activities beyond the activities of its members, that means it goes out of business (liquidation according to the German GmbH law) by the last member press declaring leaving the network.
In order to offer all services at the highest level possible, the network needs companies (including members) who offer the services to become a contractor to offer the services to all members.
Members of the following universities have used the publication service of the network for publishing so far:
- Karlsruhe Institute of Technology / Germany
