Within the framework of this work, both fundamental materials science and practically relevant questions regarding the structural and functional fatigue of wires and tension springs made of NiTi are clarified. The technically significant shape memory effects, pseudoelasticity and one-way effect, are investigated with regard to fatigue behavior and the associated microstructural changes. For structural fatigue through rotating bending and for functional fatigue through tensile pulsating tests, simple materials-mechanical models are proposed that enable a description of fatigue phenomena for the simulation and constructive design of technical components made of NiTi.
