Product Information
Product Description
A precise study of the novel shows that the natural scientific and mathematical specialized discourses contained within it constitute a large portion of the text that has been neglected in humanities research. This work demonstrates through numerous textual examples: 1. Musil possesses immense expertise in the mentioned specialized discourses, which emerges at many points in the texts. 2. Earlier literary and philosophical research has either completely overlooked these considerable specialized discursive components of the novel or has completely misunderstood them. From both points, the special position of Musil's work can be recognized, which is based on the fact that specialized knowledge is primarily used operationally. Consequently, Musil's literary work cannot initially be read interdiscursively, as has been done in previous studies, but requires a detailed reconstruction of the natural scientific, mathematical and physical-psychological specialized discourses employed by Musil.
