Product Description
Within the framework of this work, three LiFe-Maps were developed. Furthermore, the suitability of one of these applications was empirically investigated. For the development of LiFe-Maps, it was necessary to explain the terms LiFe-Map and LiFe-Mapping. LiFe-Maps are cartographic applications that primarily serve the audio-visual transmission of linguistic means (Linguistic Features). Subordinate to language transmission, LiFe-Maps also convey - like every cartographic representation - geospatial facts. LiFe-Maps are based on the multimodality principle, i.e., they communicate information through at least two sensory systems, the visual and acoustic channels. Therefore, LiFe-Maps are always applications of acoustic cartography, a manifestation of multimedia cartography. LiFe-Maps differ from previously known audio-visual maps in that they communicate linguistic, and thus non-redundant, information through narrative sound elements. Furthermore, LiFe-Maps, depending on their primary linguistic transmission goal, are to be classified as Pronu-Maps (pronunciation), Into-Maps (intonation), Gram-Maps (grammar), Vocab-Maps (vocabulary), and Ortho-Maps (orthography). This work has shown that the idea of audio-visual transmission of language, in combination with the transmission of geospatial facts, is interesting for practice. On the one hand, it is possible to develop LiFe-Maps based on and linking various software. On the other hand, the idea is accepted by elementary school teachers. The positive feedback indicates that - looking ahead - the topic of LiFe-Mapping, and thus also the use of the acoustic dimension in cartography, has potential for further research questions.
